Germany 15/07 to 20/07 1994 "Bad Griesbach or Bust"
A single manned trip to the Fatherland with new track for diesel being very much the main aim. Some of this new track not being in the current diagrams, just idea's I had through time-consuming scanning of the DB Kursbuch. Once again # = New loco.

What was I doing at Siegen at just before midnight on a Sunday Night? Desperation, that's what!
I had long thought about doing the hauled turn from Dillenburg to Betzdorf but with an 0503 departure it was only possible to cover off the 1st Siegen to Geissen train. A couple of beers in a warm McDonalds on the station (of course they sell beer - it's in Germany where even some of their Cinemas sell beer!) until it closed at 1am, then a couple of hours sleep on a station bench - that's why I had picked mid-July to cover it!

A right old carry-on caused me to miss the leap at Marktredwitz. I had set my alarm for 10 minutes before arrival time, when it went off there was no sign of Neath in the compo, although all his gear was in evidence. I put on my shoes & went to find him, the toilet was locked at the end of the coach - he had fallen asleep while sat on the Loo! I banged on the door until I woke him & told him to get to the compo & pack up his stuff. Still time for me to use the loo though. You couldn't make it up - I fell asleep on the loo & missed the shack! A Gripperess banged on the door, she was doing a grip after getting on at Marktredwitz - but I couldn't find our Compo or gear or Neath! Probably cos he'd bailed & took all the gear with him like I asked him too! I didn't even have my wallet or validity on me.
I soon realised what had happened and after explaining it to her I bailed at Hof, just the small matter of rejoining Neath with no money or Frog to get there!

Neath had rolled in behind 217 016 & informed me my bag had now had 3 more 217's than me as all 3 would have been required - at least I was reacquainted with my gear including wallet, passport & tickets! Time for the long haul back towards Blighty.

A good trip, you can tell it's 5 years after I started bashing in Germany by the greatly reduced number of new locos in this report. Still, all the new track was done & with a sprinkling of winners to keep the book filling up what's not to like. The only day I was purely going for winners (217's) I over-dossed through to Hof!
