A Fantastic trip to two countries where the majority of local routes could still be covered loco hauled, even if you had to carefully check the diagrams - and still a chance of doing some routes with no "known" workings if you checked the timetables thoroughly. Add to that the fantastic beer offerings available in Germany when most in the UK were still oblivious to them - what's not to like!
